Following on from the driver training implemented in April, Gary Parmar and Joe Connolly were both seconded to the Industrial Training Centre Trust to continue the ‘Train the Trainers’ programme, building on existing skills and knowledge.
In August, Gary visited the project and spent time furthering its training capacity in Lusaka and in the Copperbelt region. Gary also conducted some research to help lay the foundations for Joe’s visit in October.
Joe continued to expand this work through conducting a short hazardous chemical (Haz Chem) training course to the four driver trainers which was extended to several other trainers at the ITCT. The course covered all classes of dangerous goods with a focus on petroleum and also incorporated a visit to a BP depot so trainers could see a live operation. All course attendees were equipped with the appropriate materials to enable them to begin conducting Haz Chem training sessions.
In addition to this training, Joe also conducted defensive driving training on the American ‘Smith’ system and supported the driver trainers with ongoing coaching, key observations and recommendations which will link into the overall ITCT action plan.
