Transaid's position on The UK Department for International Development's 3rd White Paper on International Development
Our response to the White Paper
The White Paper pays particular attention to the problems faced by Africa and emphasises the importance of economic growth as the key factor in poverty reduction. The need for increased investment in infrastructure is highlighted as an important mechanism to stimulate growth. Transaid’s position is that investment in new roads and other transport related infrastructure should always be accompanied by an investment in transport management skills to create an efficient, affordable and safe commercial and passenger transport sector. Otherwise, use of the roads will remain the expensive privilege of the few, and the already appalling road death and injury rate will increase exponentially. Read the full response (pdf format)
